Abstract

In the modern combat and surveillance environment, the problem of detecting enemy objects is no longer merely a matter of acquiring imagery from a distance. The main difficulty is associated with the increasing spectral, textural, and geometric similarity of an object to its background, the development of camouflage means, the disappearance of small-sized targets within a wide observation field, meteorological effects, and inter-platform variability.
